At AP Education we support schools and local authorities with in-person Alternative Provision for all learners. We maintain the link with education for learners who are unable to access mainstream learning no matter the circumstance.

Re-engaging learners
Our learners are supported with provision that is accessible, encouraging, and inclusive here at AP Education. Individual Learning Plans are tailored for each learner through the following approaches:
1:1 education in Alternative Provision offers a personalised approach to tuition, where learners have individual learning plans created by us which are followed by a dedicated tutor. Progress is then monitored weekly for all learners to keep placement on track. By focusing on one learner at a time, 1:1 education allows for a tailored curriculum that addresses the needs of the learner whilst it fosters a supportive, distraction-free environment where learners can progress at their own pace, build confidence, and develop essential skills in a way that is difficult to achieve in larger class settings.
2:1 tuition involves two tutors working collaboratively with one learner. This approach is used for learners with higher-level needs who may benefit from additional support to make sessions more effective, calm, and manageable. While it offers similar educational input to 1:1 tuition, the presence of a second tutor provides enhanced emotional, behavioural, or safety support tailored to the learner’s needs. 2:1 tuition is also used in unstaffed community venues as a safeguarding measure, ensuring the wellbeing of both tutors and learners.
Group intervention offers a supportive space for learners of similar age and ability to engage in social interaction and collaborative learning. Through peer-to-peer support, learners can build confidence, develop key skills, and enhance their understanding. This approach is effective for a wide range of needs, providing flexible support while promoting teamwork and shared progress.
Whilst face-to-face tuition works well for some of our learners, we have a percentage of learners that work better with online tuition. Online tuition offers the same benefits as 1:1 tuition yet is online based instead of in-person learning. This is a great form of tuition for learners with SEMH as this mitigates the worries of any anxiousness in attending in-person tuition, with the learner in the comfort of their own home or a familiar community space. Some learners start with online tuition with a goal of transitioning to in-person learning.
AP Education offers a tailored curriculum to cater for the needs and abilities of each learner.
We begin by building trust and positive relationships with each learner, recognising that emotional readiness is key to effective learning. Only once a learner feels safe and settled do we introduce baseline assessments to identify any knowledge gaps and inform tailored support.
Our Education Coordinators attend the first session to support a smooth start, and progress is monitored regularly through tutor reports, review meetings, and outcome tracking. With reintegration as a key focus, we adapt learning plans continuously to help each learner move toward their goals at a pace that’s right for them.
